The pharmaceutical packaging production is subject to very stringent legislative measures with particular emphasis on hygiene and traceability. Polyethylene (with or without additives), polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene terephthalate and polyethylene vinyl acetate are the most commonly used polymers for plastic pharmaceutical packaging. Within the pharmaceutical industry, the plastics exist in the form of flexible packaging (pouches, flow packs, films) as well as rigid containers (pots, closures, dispensers). Blister packs – especially combining plastics and aluminum – range among the most popular pharmaceutical packaging. Due to a continued development in the pharmaceutical industry and medicine, not only new packaging solutions but also new materials are continuously developed.
