Plastic, mainly returnable crates serve to transport food, bakery products, and beverages. They find their application also in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, or automotive industries. Plastic crates exist in many design variations and can be made of various plastics (mostly PP, HDPE). Crate structures are adjusted to handling methods and stacking options. Mainly for these reasons, modular sizes of crates are based on the aspect ratio of standard (EUR: 1,200mm x 800mm) and industrial (1,200mm x 1,000mm) pallets. Accordingly, common crates have dimensions such as 300mm x 400mm (one eighth of a pallet), 400mm x 600mm (one quarter of a pallet), etc.
